Alaska Bear Hunting Guides
When you book a hunt with our Alaska bear hunting guides we will take you to remote camps in units 19-B and 19-C. These fully guided brown bear hunts target the mountain Grizzly which reside in the interior of Alaska. The areas we hunt is a fair chase spot and stalk style of hunt. We hike the tundra and glass the blueberry patches to find them feeding, so you will want a good pair of binoculars and range finder. Once we find the bear we want we make the stalk close the distance.
Alaska’s Premier Bear Hunting Service Over 40 Years of Experience
The fall hunt is the time of year where Grizzlies are often found high on the alpine ridges, they are gorging on the last blueberries and other berries from the summer. We will set up and glass the ridges and slope faces looking for them as they feed. We also will use Caribou and Moose kill sites as the bears will always visit them to feed. This hunt can be done with rifle or bow, just remember with a bow it must be a close shot and the guide will be providing back up with a rifle. We do not want our clients taking shots of over 200 yards where most will be 60-150 with a rifle. You will travel to base camp by float plane, landing on beautiful small lakes and from there you will scope the hills and valleys for your trophy bear.
Things To Know About Our Guided Brown Bear Hunts
Our hunts are 10 day hunts either the first 10 days or the second ten days of September. Our hunts are out of spike camps on small lakes. We fly in by float plane and then hunt by foot. The hunts are either a one on one hunt, one hunter one guide with a packer or a two on one hunt with two hunters and one guide and a packer. These hunts are not for the faint of heart, you will be hiking on tundra, and through wetlands.
We advise that you get yourself ready and train for strenuous activity. You will work harder than you think, and accomplish much more than you thought you were capable of. Many hunters as they leave state how much they enjoyed and appreciated the levels to which they arose to. Remember that this is a hunt where you can hike several miles each day. So good boots and being in shape for the hunt will make all the difference in how successful you will be. The thrill of getting close to these amazing animals is incredible.
What Is The Right Gun For An Alaska Brown Bear Hunt
We recommend a minimum of a 300 Winn Mag or Weatherby Mag with 185 grain slug. Many hunters use a 338 Winn Mag with a 200-225 grain slug. Remember shot placement is key to a successful hunt. We also advise that you bring a good handgun with you.
The goal is to take a true trophy Grizzly. We have from blond to the darker colors in our area, so there are beautiful bears available.
Sometimes we are able to set up and watch the carcasses of the moose we kill as these are natural attractants. Most moose carcasses have bears on them within 24 hours. We strive to achieve a shot of 100 yards or less. Many are taken at 50-75 yards.
Guided Bear Hunt Details
How we get there? Many of the hunters have never flown in a float plane, this is a chance to cross another item off the bucket list. If we are hunting several species, there may be moving of camp involved, so you could be moved a time or two. Remember, you are not allowed to fly and hunt the same day, so we only move in the late afternoon so you can get the morning hunt in before you move. You will see Alaska from a very unique perspective.
What are camps like? The camps are done in Alaska Guide 8 man tents, with cots and heater provided. Remember you are in remote Alaska, so you will see and hear animals from camp, and sometimes they even visit. Also all food and snacks are included, you will eat well!
How to care for hides? We will fly the hide and skull out of the bush for you and get them to a taxidermist, and then the hunter will work with them to decide what they want done either tanning and shipped or mounted etc. The cost for this is paid by the hunter. Many hunters have the hide tanned in Alaska and then shipped home to a local taxidermist they use.
Many of the hunters make it a combo hunt and will take both Moose and Caribou. We also have a Caribou and a Black Bear option as a trophy fee. You will need all tags and licenses before you arrive at camp. This also includes any harvest tickets needed.
